Baggage

Baggage unpacks an innovative take on the impacts of trauma, toxic people, and travel. In this cathartic memoir, writer/performer, Melissa Rose relives the story of her experiences as a touring spoken word artist in the United States and Europe. Originally written as a healing exercise to cope with shame, Rose blends travel memoir, dramatic monologue, and poetry together into a story of vulnerability, connection and accountability.

Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde derives from a love for the creepy and off-putting, and also the uniquely human need for life beyond death. This screenplay follows Margot, a taxidermist-in-training with a god-heavy hand and a god-complex boyfriend, Damon. When her creations talk back, where does the line between reality and illusion land? Was there ever one to begin with? Today, Formaldehyde is a table read, but may soon become a real-life film. But what is real life anyway?

Balladir on Fringe

Balladir is a band! We perform sarcastic chamber folk of the past and present. Future-folk, anti-folk, nerd-folk, and sub-aquatic-anti-future folk. We use strings, bows, drums, reeds, bellows, and voices both bellowed and subtle. We croon and caterwaul about elven umbrellas, astrologically inclined fish, and multiple historical Scots revelers named Tom. We use puppets, when we can catch them.

Listening For The Loneliest Whale

First detected in 1989, one whale crosses the ocean singing at a pitch frequency used by no others. It has never been seen and its species is unknown. Meanwhile, the seas are an underwater cacophony of cargo ships and military testing, interfering with all whales’ communication, jeopardizing their existence.

This is our human predicament: we’re crowded, yet isolated, with nowhere else to go. Listening for the Loneliest Whale is a live performance for voice, loop station and Taiko drum, investigating what it takes to connect and hope in our time.

Pennaceous Rachis

Pennaceous Rachis is the result of years of Downy’s musical collaboration and close friendship. This improvised composition explores how sonic repetition can reveal the unseen in the acoustics of a space and subtle connections between beings. Hear repetitive marimba, sparkling electric guitar, harmonica drones, cello harmonics, synthesizer warbles, and crinkling paper in an intimate performance venue with projections and floor seating. We want the audience to get comfy and participate in this experiential hour-long performance.
