Box of Stars

  • Rogue River Room, Stevenson Union 1118 Siskiyou Boulevard Ashland, OR (map)

Are you listening? Can you hear…? The music of Jacob Collier overflows with harmony, wonder and joy; Dean Kyle takes this sonic world of folk, funk, and orchestra, and, through his unique musical lens of percussive arrangements, crafts a fully immersive concert experience interweaving elements of toy/junk percussion, theater, poetry, and beyond. Box of Stars explores the treasures of Collier’s rich musical storytelling in a fascinating new, radiant dimension. Come step into their world.

Dean Kyle is a senior studying Percussion and Emerging Media & Digital Arts at Southern Oregon University. He likes to write music for both computers and human musicians, often exploring connections between music, narrative, theater, and performance art. His work indulges the world in its own musical sensory delights by basking in the wonder of everyday things. One of his most important guiding principles goes as follows: The word that connects people to music is “play.”
