Rock Show Gala

  • Rockafairy 1600 North Riverside Avenue Medford, OR (map)

MUSIX is a collective of students who enjoy a wide-safe space for musical creativity that takes its inspiration from the popular sphere and its myriad styles and genres. Students are put into duos, trios, quartets and larger to write, perform, and produce original music - see our Bandcamp page. All instrumentalists are encouraged to participate:  singers, rappers, guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, DJs/turntablists, computer-musicians and orchestral and jazz instrumentalists as well.  We also welcome students who seek to work on the production side, as MUSIX must be supported with a sound team, savy social media-ists, and video producers. The creative possibilities in MUSIX as an organization are endless.

Over the course of the semester, the students and the instructor create songs in a variety of ways. Those who read music are often paired with those who intuit music. Music is created through an improvisational, or “by rote” fashion; or it is completely conceived, written out and prepared for performers to rehearse. This new music is often written down as a lead sheet and/or memorized through the aural process of identifying and repeating sequences of musical material. All approaches to composing are aimed towards an evening-length concert at some point during an academic term, and/or to produce music worthy of commercial world-wide release - please see our social outlets below.

MUSIX is excited to be a part of the Oregon Fringe Festival this year. MUSIX especially looks forward to partnering with Rockafairy. Rockafairy is a nonprofit organization that serves the Rogue Valley in offering resources for creative expression: music lessons, rehearsal spaces, a music and art supply library, and a public event venue. Most resources are freely available to the public, with perks available to Rockafairy members and volunteers. Members pay dues each month to support our operations. Rockafairy seeks to improve community health through its operations and offerings. Much of Rockafairy is built by and evolves with the community. If you are inspired, Rockafairy encourages you to contribute by becoming a member, sharing our content, volunteering, donating equipment, services or funds, or offering insight.

We all look forward to seeing you at the Rogue Valley mall for the Rock Show Gala!
