Rhythm and Autism

  • SOU Theatre Studio 227 University Way Ashland, OR (map)

Andee Joyce’s one-woman original musical comedy, RHYTHM AND AUTISM, is a thunderously joyous, rhythmically infectious celebration of difference, and an open invitation for people to be everything they are. Andee leads us through an interactive, funny, and touching WONDER YEARS-style narrative about growing up autistic in the 1960s and 1970s – and her pandemic-era encounters with an internal “Clappy Monster” that changed her relationship with music (and other people) forever.

At age 44, singer/songwriter/storyteller Andee Joyce was officially diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. Several years later, she self-diagnosed as needing to perform for as many strangers as possible. Andee’s multi-octave, multi-textured voice, playful humor, and catchy cadence are on full display in RHYTHM AND AUTISM, her solo musical comedy, interweaving spoken word about her autistic life, live acoustic guitar playing, live vocal and percussion looping, backing tracks, and many opportunities for audience participation.
