Elbow Room Taiko

  • Lithia Park Bandshell Winburn Way Ashland, OR (map)

Make it stand out

The Taiko Drum came to Japan as early as the 6th Century by way of India, China and Korea, and was used in folk festivals, and shinto and buddhist practices. Elbow Room Taiko performs contemporary Taiko offering original music with common human themes, in an uncommon way. The expressive possibilities for our profound and earthy drums are endless.

Elbow Room Taiko are your local neighbors from all walks of life. The mighty Taiko (drums) are the medium through which we express our solidarity with all living things. Much of our music is composed by Taiko master, Ikuyo Conant (b. 1955, Japan). Elbow Room Taiko Director Suzee Grilley teaches in Ashland. Taiko training explores elements of dance, martial art and musical skill.

Performers: Suzee Grilley, Kenyon Mayers, Jennifer Carroll, Alison Chandler, Judith Cope, Marielke Funke, Liisa Ivary, Nora Juncal, Leslie Lanes, Suzanne Ray, Joanna Steinman, Elessar Trost
