Malinka's story began when Latvian-born vocalist/guitarist Yelena Valerievna sought musicians with whom to collaborate in her exploration of her native music of Eastern Europe. As other members joined the group, the band began to venture out to other regions and beyond. With Puerto Rican vocalist Mahri Reyes, British drummer Luke Lewis, and classically-trained instrumentalists Abigail Wilensky (violin), Tim Kelly (bass), and Lawrence Newcomb (clarinet, saxophone), the band brings music from around the world with a Malinka touch.
