Chain of Command

Jonathan Sharp

Location: Meese Auditorium, SOU Art Building / Thursday, April 25 1:00PM - 9:00PM

Jonathan Sharp will perform "Chain of Command" by Graham Fitkin. This electronic work, written for solo mallet synthesizer and live looping, incorporates chopped up samples of speeches from George Bush on Guantanamo and the Iraq war, alongside a Donald Rumsfeld speech from the enquiry into prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib. This content acknowledges the fact that ‘music’ had been used as an instrument of torture, 24 hours a day at Guantanamo.

Jonathan Sharp is a highly regarded percussion artist and educator with a diverse teaching and performance background.  Dr. Sharp is currently Associate Professor of Percussion at Iowa State University and has held previous appointments at Morehead State University and Centre College.
